It’s no secret that we embrace a naturalistic philosophy here at Earth Eclectic. To put it in a nutshell, we find inspiration in the natural world.
But what about magic? Isn’t that spooky stuff supernatural? And if so, isn’t that just humbug tomfoolery that’s best avoided?
This episode collects a diverse array of musical expressions from artists who dare to suggest otherwise. From ritualistic Pagan chants to acoustic folk spells to ethereal celebrations of natural phenomena to spooky field recordings, these artists find magic all around us. From French prog-rock and New Zealand witch-rock to Pennsylvania witch house and West Virginia vaporwave, this music makes the case: magic isn’t about creating illusions but erasing them. It’s about dissolving boundaries, erasing the distinctions we’ve invented between human and Earth.
And what do birds have to do with it? We’re not sure, but they sure do show up a lot. You tell us!
P.S. Toward the end of this episode, Bart makes reference to Dark Green Religion by Dr. Bron Taylor. Here’s a link for that book. As always, we invite you to explore the playlist to find more information about the music and support the artists.
