This week on Earth Eclectic Radio Hour, host Bart Everson presents “Hibiscus Harvest,” a gathering of Earth-conscious music released as the crimson flowers offer their final blooms of the season. From Michigan’s The Vital Hive honoring “All of Our Ancestors” to the meditative flow of Finland’s “Backyard Creek” by Katarsis, these new releases form a global tapestry of ecological awareness. The journey traverses Australia’s rugged Larapinta Trail with Cameron Wust, meanders along Virginia’s Rappahannock River with Shane Cooley, and contemplates “Winter’s Marigolds” with Mama Gina—whose remarkable composition emerged during a period of blindness while living beside Missouri’s Gasconade River. Switzerland’s Nadine Carina captures the intimate dance between forest and rainfall, while Wisconsin’s Shri Steep reminds us to “Listen to the Plants” and honor “the symbiotic dance.” We’ll hear music from Darin Zarzecki, Aerhalev, Vista Pacifica, and Simon Purchase James. The collection features six albums released over three days (November 6th-8th, 2025), suggesting a simultaneous flowering of ecological music-making. As the hour concludes with the re-release of late poet Brian Patten’s “The Blue and Green Ark,” we’re reminded that like the hibiscus harvest itself, our creative expressions of Earth connection continue even as the season turns toward winter’s rest.

PSA: The Pacifica Foundation was born in the late 1940s around the time of the peace movement surrounding World War II. Listener-supported radio was a new concept, and many didn’t think radio could survive without corporate sponsorship. Some disagreed, including Lewis Hill – a news reporter who had recently been fired from his corporate media station for refusing to misrepresent the truth. Thus, Pacifica began, and in 1949 KPFA first broadcast from Berkeley, California. All of their challenges and triumphs are too numerous to list, but you can find out more about their history, their radio station affiliates and producer group affiliates (which Earth Eclectic recently joined), their mission, how you can get involved, and more at Pacifica.org.
