Host Laura Dedelow curates a musical journey through rain’s many moods—beginning with hellocentral’s contemplative “finding home” before the Boutte Family’s gospel celebration “Didn’t It Rain” evokes New Orleans’ complicated relationship with water. Neko Case offers a tender interpretation of Dylan’s “Buckets of Rain,” while blues legends Buddy Guy and Irma Thomas contribute the soulful “Feels Like Rain” and the classic “It’s Raining,” respectively. Jerry Garcia Band’s “Rain” closes the first set with folksy reverence. After a pause, the program delves deeper with Bob Dylan’s prophetic “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” followed by Susan Christie’s dreamy “Rainy Day.” The New Orleans theme returns with Mark Bingham’s tribute “Allen Toussaint in the Rain” and Chip Wilson’s rendition of “I Can’t Stand the Rain.” Henry Butler’s jazz-inflected cover of The Doors’ stormy classic leads to Daniel Lanois’ atmospheric “Under the Stormy Sky.” The journey concludes with James Booker’s poignant piano rendition of “Over the Rainbow”—reminding listeners that beyond every storm lies the possibility of clearing skies. Throughout, Laura acknowledges collective overwhelm while suggesting that, like weather, our metaphorical storms too shall pass.
