0059: Songs of Interconnection

“Songs of Interconnection” invites listeners to contemplate our profound ecological embeddedness through diverse global voices.

The journey begins with Redwood Reider’s spoken-word meditation comparing human societies to forest ecosystems where “trees are socialists” supporting their neighbors, followed by Darcy Nelson’s Earth Day 2025 river cleansing ritual. The first set explores multinational perspectives: Portuguese duo Eye Color Dreams’ “Divine Nature,” Laura Niquay’s Atikamekw-language “Mother Earth,” Taiwanese artist Sauljaljui singing in her indigenous tongue about forest home comfort, and Kate Daisy Grant & Nick Pynn’s oak tribute from their newly-released tree anthology. After the break, Living Earth rocks “Roots Go Down,” Irish songwriter Seán Mulrooney offers “The Awakening,” Peter Mayer celebrates biological wonder in “Miracle of Life,” and Icelandic artist Néfur delivers “The Egg,” inspired by her country’s first glacier lost to climate change. The hour concludes with experimental African field recordings from H.Flora and Ampersan’s 2014 Mexican psychedelic celebration “Mother Earth,” each piece revealing unique facets of our unbreakable bonds with the living planet.
